False Creek is a short inlet in the heart of Vancouver. It is one of the four major bodies of water bordering Vancouver along with English Bay, Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River. In 1986 it was the location of the Expo 86World's Fair. Dplus partnered with several other leading Vancouver design teams in creating a master plan that makes this area the world's most well-known waterfront development.

The first step of False Creek deveopment came from the transformation of the Granville Island. This abandoned industrial island was converted into a new waterfront mixed-use community of culture, retail, art and restaurants. The island's industrial buildings and facilities have been preserved to the greatest extent possible, and have been transformed into an art academy, commercial and other uses. A strong sense of art, creative design and graffiti, a public market, art galleries and crafts retail stores are all part of the community. In conjunction with the Vancouver Biennale, Fringe Festival, Jazz Festival and others, Granville Island became a world-class attraction with over 10 million annual visitors, a number that exceeds even some of the Disney lands.

The second step was the development of the 1986 Vancouver World's Fair, which saw a large number of Expo pavilions and permanent facilities were constructed in this area. The improvement of the infrastructure has laid a good foundation for the future development of the regions and the government has started to formulate a comprehensive development plan for the region. World-class waterfront livable community has become the development goal of this area. "High density, Hydrophilic and High quality of life" have become the main labels for the area.

A large number of industrial buildings have been preserved as cultural heritage and transformed into community centers, cultural and art centers, commercial facilities, etc.. enriching the life of the area. A continuous waterfront, public open spaces at different scales and a system of green spaces and parks make False Creek the community with the most beautiful and functional outdoor spaces. Bike paths, slow moving systems, water access, and public transportations have been created to make low-carbon travel a priority for the community.

Through ongoing renovations and new construction, False Creek has successfully attracted investment from around the world, False Creek has become one of Vancouver's premier quality living communities. The success of False Creek has also made Vancouver Downtown one of the most vibrant and sustainable downtowns in North America, and has been recognized by the United Nations for many years as one of the most livable Cities in the world.
